Tomm was born with a rare condition, the first case of its kind in the world. Doctors are having a hard time figuring out why.
In 1993, the medical world was shocked by the case of a newborn baby born with an unprecedented skin condition. That baby was Tomm Tennent, from Southeastern Australia.
Tomm was born with excess skin that was more wrinkled than that of an old person, his body was full of folds that made his parents panic when they first saw him. It is known that at that time, Tomm had the same amount of skin as a 5-year-old baby. His limbs were large and swollen.
The ultrasound results when Tomm’s mother was pregnant with him were not like that. No one could have imagined that Tomm’s condition would be so serious when he was born. “When he was born, I was shocked. I didn’t think a normal person or a small baby could look like that,” Tomm’s father, Geoff Tennent, was shocked when he met his son.
However, after a series of studies, experts confirmed that Tomm’s condition will soon improve over time because the amount of Hyaluronic acid on the skin is reduced, helping the skin return to normal flatness.
By his teenage years, Tomm’s condition had improved significantly, although he was not as flat as a normal person, it could be seen that many parts of his body had become less thick and wrinkled.
Because of his different appearance, the boy had to grow up with many criticisms and comments from people around him.
He once shared on the program 60MinutesAustralia that sometimes he felt sad because some friends did not want to play with him when he started going to school. However, with his kind and optimistic nature, he gradually integrated and had a close group of friends.
Many years have passed, Tomm Tennent is now 28 years old. Perhaps many people who have heard about this rare story will be very curious about Tomm’s life and appearance at present. Following Tomm’s Facebook page, it can be seen that he has started a family and got married not long ago. The couple is living happily in Frankston, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia.
So after many years, going through many events and being born unlike a normal child, Tomm overcame his fate to live a joyful, meaningful and happiest life.
Perhaps, as Tomm said on Facebook: “Life is simple. You make a choice and you just move forward, don’t look back”, all difficulties will pass if we know how to accept, always stay optimistic and strong.
